Review: Hunger

Title: Hunger
Author: Michael Grant
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: May 6th, 2009
Book: Book Club

It's been three months since everyone under the age of fifteen became trapped in the bubble known as the FAYZ.

Three months since all the adults disappeared. GONE.

Food ran out weeks ago. Everyone is starving, but no one wants to figure out a solution. And each day, more and more kids are evolving, developing supernatural abilities that set them apart from the kids without powers. Tension rises and chaos is descending upon the town. It's the normal kids against the mutants. Each kid is out for himself, and even the good ones turn murderous.

But a larger problem looms. The Darkness, a sinister creature that has lived buried deep in the hills, begins calling to some of the teens in the FAYZ. Calling to them, guiding them, manipulating them.

The Darkness has awakened. And it is hungry.

The second installment of Michael Grants thrilling series proves to be just as great as the first but not better. There are a lot of problems going on withing Perdido Beach. Kids dissappearing after they pass the age of 15. Kids developing powers and the "normal kids" killing people. And last of all...NO FOOD!

After the last battle with Caine and his crew Sam  has a lot on his plate, and he is getting no help from the citizens of Perdido Beach. They are looking up to Sam for guidance but when he cant do something they put full blame on him. Sam is getting stressed with everything, and even his two friends cant even help him out. And to make things worse, Caine is getting back to power and plans to cause trouble for Sam and with important people switching sides death is the only thing imminent.

This book proves to be more horrible than the first in th sense of all the troubles that come upon the children of Perdido Beach. Mr. Grant writes another story that I was unable to put down until I reached the last page. This book kept me on my toes waiting to see what happens next. I implore that all people check out this book or this series. You will be blown away from the first chapter.

I give this book 5 souls!

Review: Gone

Title: Gone
Author: Michael Grant
Publisher: Haper Teen
Release Date: July 1, 2008
Book: Book Club

In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.

Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.
It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...

I recieved this book in my library book club. Reading the back and finding out that parents just dissappered just out of the ordinary got my attention. The first question that popped in my head was: How were these kids going to survive? My second question was: Who was going to take control? These questions soared through my head but I knew of only one way to do find the answers. Read the book. And thats exactly what I did.

Mr. Grant, you wrote a story that I wasnt able to put down but you wrote a story that was also terrible. The lives that the children faced in this so called FAYZ was injustice. At first they were having a blast but when they started to feel hungry, terror struck Perdido Beach. Kids ransacked stores, houses, and whatever they could so they could get food. But this is where questions first started happening. What happens when the food is finished?

Sam, this is a guy that you would want if your parents ever dissapeared. He is smart, logical, and he knows whats best for these kids. He tries to take control and he has to deal  with the bullies in town and then when Caine and his crew from Coates Academy comes and tries to get people on his side. Sam has a lot on his plate but with his friends Quinn and Astrid, I think he will be  able to make it through.

Okay lets talk a little bit about Caines crew. Caine, the leader of the crew and nobody knows this yet but Sam is his brother. Diana, a girl with an attitude, is able to tell the level of someones power. And then last of all is Drake, a power hungry psyco freak that will stop at nothing to get what he wants even if killing innoent people is the only way to get it. This group of kids will cause trouble for the people of Perdido Beach and Sam is the only person that will be able to stop them.

This book is filled with violence, drama, adventure, action, and terror. Mr. Grant brought a story that leaves a message. A societys downfall comes when people within start fighting each other instead of getting along.
For this group of kids they will find out sooner or later.

I recommend this book for anyone who loves to read. This book will have you ask questions that you will only find answers by reading.

I give this book 5 souls!

Review: Archenemy

Title: Archenemy
Author: Frank Beddor
Publisher: Dial
Release Date: October 15, 2009
Book: Bought

The Heart Crystal's power has been depleted, and Imagination along with it. The people of Wonderland have all lost their creative drive, and most alarmingly, even Queen Alyss is without her powers. There is some comfort in the fact that the vicious Redd Heart seems to be similarly disabled. Amazingly, she is attempting to team up with her enemy, Alyss, in order to reclaim Wonderland from King Arch. Alyss might have no choice but to accept Redd's overtures, especially when she begins to receive alarming advice from the caterpillar oracles.

What, okay hold on Redd and Alyss teaming up. Now thats a big shocker. Okay I dont know what's happening. All creativity is gone and Wonderland is in the hands of Arch. In the third and final completion of The Looking War series, will Alyss Heart and her sworn enemy team up and reclaim Wonderland or will they be at the mercy of King Arch till the end of time.

This book proved to be the best of all three. This book kept me on my toes the whole time. I told my parents that I didnt want to be disturbed when I started reading this book. I sat down in my reading corner and read and read and read some more until I finished the book. When I finished I was in awe...I felt like the book ended on a good note.

I fell in love with all the characters and I even hated Hatter for a little bit of the book when he was trying to protect his daughter but instead was pushing her away. However, my hate turned to understanding and I began to love him once again as a character.

I advise all readers to check this book and or this series and dive into the wonderful life of Wonderland. I am glad that I picked up this series and I hope to read another series by Mr. Beddor.

I give this book 5 souls!

Review: Seeing Redd

Title: Seeing Redd
Author: Frank Beddor
Publisher: Dial
Release Date: August 21, 2007
Publisher: Dial
Book: Bought

Wonderland finally seems as if it’s getting back to normal. Queen Alyss is back on the throne, and reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Dodge. But the fight for Wonderland is far from over. King Arch, in nearby Boarderland, is conniving to overthrow everything for which Alyss and her friends have fought so hard. Even worse, King Arch has found an ally in the recently returned Redd, who has been biding her time and gathering new and evil assassins in the Catacombs of Paris. With enemies circling and danger looming, someone close to Alyss lets her down—and threatens the future of Wonderland forever.

The second book for The Looking Wars series was an amazing read. I was able to finish this book in one sitting. The evilness of Redd just dragged me into the story and I went to the dark side and fell in love with Redd and all her evilness.

Like I said that I fell in love with Redd. I just loved how Frank Beddor gave Redd her part as an evil villian with action that would make any person crawl into the corner. I know that if I ever got the chance to meet her I would be fascinated at first but then I would run away scared. But wow she really has an attitude problem.

Okay people I know I went to the dark side and all but I still love Hatter. I would never stop hating Hatter. I wish I was little so I could dress up as him but sadly I couldnt. People here at college would probably laugh at me. But oh well, Hatter comes off as a character that would never let you be harmed in anyway. He is a pewrson that would give his life for you. Thats why I fell in love with character and thast why I would never stop loving him.

This book comes to the reader with morev action, adventure, drama, and in most parts pure evilness. I reccomend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and who loves books of pure evil. Just kidding, but seriously check out this book, or this series its good.

I give this book 5 souls!

Review: The Looking Glass Wars

Title: The Looking Glass Wars
Author: Frank Beddor
Publisher: Dial
Relaease Date: September 26, 2006
Book: Bought

Alyss Heart can't stand that "master of fantasy" bunk; she knows that Lewis Carroll was nothing more than an incompetent reporter. After she generously shared her Wonderland experiences with this fledgling author, he totally botched the retelling, even mangling her name. Alyss, however, refuses to merely grouse; she and royal bodyguard Hatter Madigan decide to make another emergency excursion down the rabbit hole, opening our eyes to parallel realms that prim Rev. Dodgson never imagined. A refreshing take on a Victorian classic.
Okay many of your think that this book is the remake of Alice in Wonderland book by Lewis Carrol. Sadly its not. Yeah it may have characters that are similar to those of the Alice of Wonderlands  but I say once again this book is not the remake of the book. Okay now since I have gotten my point across lets start.

Alyss Heart the girl that is next in line for the crown when her mom steps down is an important acomplishment but however that is the last thing on her mind. Getting in trouble with her best friend Dodge proves to be more of an adventure when things turn upside down. Her aunt, Redd, attacks and kills her mom. Alyss manages to flee from her clutches with her bodyguard Hatter. Fleeing into another world Alyss life will change. Will she ever go back and reclaim what is rightfully hers or will she hide away in the new world and forget about her past.

I loved the whole story, the adventures and the battles that took on. Even the ones that took place on the same side. Having support all around your army will make you victorious. The pictures that appeared in the middle of the book I thought was cool. Yeah yeah I know I shouldnt be talking about the art but the book itself but it was part of the book.

I loved the character of the Hatter. I cant really explain why I loved him I just did. Something about the way he acted, looked, and above all cared just got me to liking him.

This book was a grand adventure all on its own. Filled with drama, action, love, courageous people and evil enemies that just wouldn't die. And yes Im talking about the Cat. Never trust cats, they will turn on you at any instant.

I reccommend this book to anyone looking for a adventure/fantasy book. Although you may think that this is a tale of Alice of Wonderland I strongly tell you that its not. So check it out, read it and I promise you will like it just as I did.

I give this book 5 souls!

Im not the type to really get in a zombie book because just the taught of something eating your fingers for a midnight snack is just not my thing. However, this book surprised me on a whole different level. I fell in love with this book from the very beginning. Okay, I know that it sounds weird that I would be falling in love with a zombie book, but hey I did.

First Night! The night that everything went from being good, to be being a zombie take-over. A night where horror was at every corner, and I mean every corner. Now in a gated community where people think they are safe are more in danger, not from zombies but of people from the inside.

I understand that not all people are huge zombie fans but if you get the chance to read it, I have come to a strong conclusion that you will like it. I give my advice to readers out there to pick up this book and dive into it. I came to liking a book that I never imangined myself ever reading.

Review: Sweetly

Title: Sweetly
Author: Jackson Pearce
Publisher: Little Brown
Release Date: August 23, 2011
Book: Gift

Twelve years ago, Gretchen, her twin sister, and her brother went looking for a witch in the forest. They found something. Maybe it was a witch, maybe a monster, they aren’t sure—they were running too fast to tell. Either way, Gretchen’s twin sister was never seen again.

Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. They move in with Sophia Kelly, a young and beautiful chocolatier owner who opens not only her home, but her heart to Gretchen and Ansel.

Yet the witch isn’t gone—it’s here, lurking in the forests of Live Oak, preying on Live Oak girls every year after Sophia Kelly’s infamous chocolate festival. But Gretchen is determined to stop running from witches in the forest, and start fighting back. Alongside Samuel Reynolds, a boy as quick with a gun as he is a sarcastic remark, Gretchen digs deeper into the mystery of not only what the witch is, but how it chooses its victims. Yet the further she investigates, the more she finds herself wondering who the real monster is, and if love can be as deadly as it is beautiful.

I love re-makes of classical fairy tales. They make my heart jump for joy. The reason behingd this is that authors who take on the challenage always prove successfull. They write their books without flaw. Im so happy to once again read a modernized fairy tale without flaw.

Hansel and Gretel. The story of how two kids go into a forest and meet a nice, beautiful lady who has a candy house who really is a wicked witch. I know so predictable but oh well. Thats a short glimpse of the old version. Now the modern version.

Being kicked out by their step-mother. Gretchen and Ansel stumble upon a town of Live Oak where at first they dont appear to be welcomed by the looks of the town citizens. Things change when they are offered a job helping the candy making lady Sophia. But things become weird when Gretchen meets a young boy and being warned to stay away. On the night of a festival girls would be invited and the night after would just disapper. Are the missing have to do with Sophia or is there something that is happening that no one is finding out about.

This book proves to be a good rendition of the classical fairy tale. Although, I dont remember there being wolves. However, that one addition doesnt make me stop loving the book. I loved it until the book ended. It kinda left off so maybe, Im hoping that there will be a second book to follow in its footsteps, but we will just have to wait and see.

This book is a must read book for all fairy tale lovers of all ages. I came to love the modernization of it and so will you. So if you are ever in the need to pick a book up, I advise on this one.

I give this book 4 souls!

Review: Deadline

Title: Deadline
Author:  Chris Crutcher
Publisher: Harper Teen
Release Date: September 1, 2007
Book: Book Club

In this often heartbreaking but highly empowering tale, an 18-year-old boy learns he has one year to live and decides to keep his illness a secret from his friends and family in order to live a so-called normal life. The hero is a well-developed character who shows both sensitivity and humor in dealing with his impending death, as well as a variety of other serious issues teens can relate to: romance, racism, mental illness, and more. Through an engaging first-person narrative filled with gut-wrenching honesty, Chris Crutcher delivers a thought-provoking tale that offers a great exercise in living each day as though it might be your last.

Wow! Thats one of the main words that I was able to tell when I finished this book and the word I was I was able to mutter through the tears streaming down my face. I know there are better words to describe this book better than wow but right now thats all I can say.

Ben has just found out he has about a year to live. Wait! What! A year! Yeah one year before his life is no more. What would you expect from a teenage boy. Tears. Depression. Wrong! This kid will soon become the complete opposite of what he would normally do.

I personally wouldnt know what I would do if I had only a year to live. I guess if I had to choose then I would do everything I could do before the year was up. But first I would probably cry.

This book is filled with so much emotion that made me want to read it more. The cover of the book is something I came to realize after I finished reading the book. What if your world turned upside down. What steps would you take to turn it right side up. I believe Ben although he did some cray stuff, his heart was right place.

This book is filed with a message beneath all those bad words that pop up. A message that I believe every reader should take the chance and open this book and dive into the world of Ben. In the end what would you do if you only had a year to live.

I give this book 5 souls!

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.
In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety . . . until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.
Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, the earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated—and with it, order—and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim . . . and meal.
The Gladers are far from finished with running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.
Thomas can only wonder—does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

The thought of finally being free from the Maze. The thought of not having to worry, and able to finally live a normal life. The thought that everything was going to alright. However, the world that these kids just entered is far from normal. The end according to them was when they escaped the maze, however, the end was triggered long ago for the outside world.

Having another timeline to get across a desert where these kids will face new terrors that will bring you to your feet. The Flare, the Cranks, and outside groups that cause this group trouble and can possibly kill them. WICKED, will always have trials that will put these kids to the test. For the better or for worse.

Is Thomas the only one who can save himself and the rest of the group, or will he be forever at the mercy of WICKED!

Review: The Maze Runner

Title: The Maze Runner
Author: James Dashner
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: October 6, 2009
Book: Bought

Imagine waking up one day in total darkness, unsure of where you are and unable to remember anything about yourself except your first name. You're in a bizarre place devoid of adults called the Glade. The Glade is an enclosed structure with a jail, a graveyard, a slaughterhouse, living quarters, and gardens. And no way out. Outside the Glade is the Maze, and every day some of the kids -- the Runners -- venture into the labyrinth, trying to map the ever-changing pattern of walls in an attempt to find an exit from this hellish place. So far, no one has figured it out. And not all of the Runners return from their daily exertions, victims of the maniacal Grievers, part animal, part mechanical killing machines.

Thomas is the newest arrival to the Glade in this Truman-meets-Lord of the Flies tale. A motley crew of half a dozen kids is all he has to guide him in this strange world. As soon as he arrives, unusual things begin to happen, and the others grow suspicious of him. Though the Maze seems somehow familiar to Thomas, he's unable to make sense of the place, despite his extraordinary abilities as a Runner. What is this place, and
does Thomas hold the key to finding a way out?

I wished the book ended in a different way it ended... Im not saying that it wasnt a good ending but it could have been better than "The End of Book One." However, the way a book ends doesnt mean that I didnt like this book so lets get down to the real reason your here, A review!

Every thirty days a boy would be brought up in an enclosed box and put in a maze. They are thrown into the world where survival is everything. A world where everthing is run on a tight schedule, that these kids dont want messed up.

However, things change when 16 yr. old Thomas shows up. Wait, you might think could change when another boy shows up on schedule. Wrong! One day after he shows up another child is brought up from the box and into the maze. Thats not all this child is something nobody in the maze expected. A girl! A girl with a message. "Shes the last one.Ever."

Racing against the clock, these kids struggle to solve the puzzle of the maze, and the only people who can help our the two new kids.

Dashner combines a world full of mystery and terror in every chapter. He is able to create a world that people will come to find unsafe. Two questions came to me as a reader, and I know you too will also come to question.

One. "Who would do this too children?" Second, and more to the point. "Why?"

Review: Where She Went

Title: Where She Went

It's been three years since the devastating accident . . . three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juilliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.

Three years! Three years ago one girl made the biggest decision in her life. A decision that brings a choice of life and death. A decision that can change the lives of the people around her. Most of all this decision will change herl life forever.

Now living in New York as Julliards rising star and her ex boyfriend Adam lead rock singer of the next top boy band, things couldnt get more weirder until one night where they will spend one single night walking the streets of New York City.

I loved reading from the persepective of Adam. Although most of his life is depressing with his so called beautiful girlfriend (not really), seeing Mia was the best in my opinion thing that could happen too him. Spending the night walking side by side hearing the story from both sides really made it clearer to me as a reader.

At the end i just couldnt be more excited when they get back together. Yes! I ruined the ending but who wouldnt be excited. People like me would just be as excited as me when they get to the part.

Filled with love, drama, and adventure (somewhat) this book I recommend for readers that are looking for a book that will bring you down and when the book is coming to a close brings you right back too the top.

I give this book 4 souls!

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen year- old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make -and the ultimate choice Mia commands.
If I stay is a book brought tears to my eyes. This book is a page turner I never took the time to put down for one second. This book is a briillant piece of art that only one word can come close to describing its full potential. Breath-taking.

Mia, after a terrible accident, is stuck in a limbo state, and is able to see how doctors struggle to keep her alive, the way her family and friends react, and everything that is happening around her. Going down the corridors of the hospital with Mia and then taking the chance of going back into the past memories of her. Flashbacks sometimes prove confusing to me, but these are clearer than ever.

However, Mia is faced with a choice that will not only affect her but the people in the world of the living. Will she stay. Will she stay in the world of limbo or will she come back to the world where there is people that love and care about her. If you decide to pick this book up. im sorry to say but you will cry. I did, myt friends did, so you will. Unless your a heartless person. This book moved me with the differecnt characters, and I loved the Grandfather to death. I was reminded of my own grandfather. Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. And to top tings off, she is involved in a love triangle. Who should she choose Will or Jem. Who knows! The characters dare to push past what they seem to be proper, and travel through a world filled with unimaginable danger.

Clare's piece is once again flawless. She brings the love, action and adventure to her reader without flaw. I advise all readers to pick up this book and if not this series. I enjoyed it and so will you.

Review: City of Fallen Angels

Title: City of Fallen Angels
Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: McElderry
Date Released: April 5, 2011
Book: Bought

The Fourth Installement of The Mortal Instruments!
Really! My hopes get all high and Im left with this ending. Why! I repeat. Why! Okay well since I gave that too you, let me get to the actual review.

The book was taken over by Jace and Clary, which was nice. Simons point of view was brought in the begginning which was interesting. In which I also enjoyed.

Okay I believed that Jace was an idiot for seperating himself from Clary. Yeah I understand that he was having dreams of killing Clary and all that, but still he shouldnt have put a wall between their relationship. It made a dent in their realtionship, so instead of protecting her, he is hurting her.

Although this book was slow to start off with and just like the other books the characters did the same thing but just with another villian, I still enjoyed it. May 2012 does seem far away but for this series I can wait.

Review: City of Glass

Title: City of Glass
Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: McElderry
Release Date: March 24th 2009
Book: Bought

To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?

City of Glass was suppose to be the final installment of The Mortal Instruments series but thankfully it wasnt. This series has kept me on my feet from the very beginning. This third book has proved to be the best of the series, and I wasnt one bit dissapointed. It proved dissapointing to my parents when I stayed up all night reading instead of studying for my test the next day. However, it was worth it.

Clary has finally found a way to save her mom and all she has to do is travel to Idris. However, Jace doesnt let her. But that doesnt stop her, not one bit. She finds her way to Idris and they are in the middle of a council meeting discussing the war that is brewing. It's the last place she should be but she may be the only hope for the Shadowhunters stopping Valentine.

This book was the longest of the series and that made me love it more. I know that the last book doesnt come out till March of next year but that makes me want to read it more. It takes a real special book to keep me up into the late of night. I loved this book and I think you would too. So take the time and pick it up. You wont be dissapointed.
