The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire -- that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.
Many readers come to the idea that this book is some what like Twilight. However, its not. This book is based on a school that is a sanctuary for kids who are marked.
Zoey is an average girl, I would say. One she has the football star player as a boyfriend. She has the best friend that she tells everything too. Also she has school tests which she hates with a passion. Normal girl! However, everything is about to change when she all of a sudden gets marked. Things go down hill from there, and the only person who treats with any signs of normal is her grandmother.
Zoey's grandmother would be someone that I would love to have as a grandmother. She is an independent lady that I could tell everything to her. I just love her. The mom on the other hand, I want to do things to that lady that one should not do. She is rude, incoherent to the things that are happening around her, and she is not what I would consider a true mother.
Overall I thought this book was an okay read. If your into the whole Twilight, Vampires going to school, come check out this book.
I give this book 4 souls!

I really liked this book when I first read it, but I think the rest of the series kind of goes downhill. \:
