Review: The Alchemyst

Title: The Alchemyst
Author: Michael Scott
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: May 20, 2007
Book: Bought

He holds the secret that can end the world. The truth: Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28, 1330. Nearly 700 years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty. The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives. But only because he has been making the elixir of life for centuries. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. That's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won't know what's happening until it's too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it. Sometimes legends are true. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.

When I first heard the name Nicholas Flamel it was when I read the first book in the Harry Potter series and so when I saw this book, I immediatley thought of Harry Potter. I bought the book and when I dove in, Harry Potter vanished from my mind and I fell in love with a whole other series and wanted to keep reading.

Two twins go on an vacation to spend some time but who knew that their adventure could be one where they find out they are the twins who could save the world. On the run from John Dee the two siblings go on an adventure with the Flamels as they learn there destiny and their key role in saving the world and mankind.

Michael Scott creates a plot line that is both intense and wonderful that keeps me reading. The characters unaware of who they travel with and what dangers they may face. Finding out what could happen next is what keeps me on my toes in anticipation.

Full of magic, adventure, action, and drifting away from Harry Potter, Michael Scott creates a world with words that capture my mind and soul from the very first lines. Highly waiting to see where this journey will take me. I hunger for more.

I give this book 5 souls!

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed this book so much! I've been meaning to continue this series, but time and what-not keeps getting away from me. I've only read this first book. I thought it was pretty good and I do look forward to continuing with the series. What I really liked was the use of Nicholas Flamel. I'd heard of him even before HP, but that's just the history geek in me. :)
I'll have to re-read this one sometime soon since it's been a while, and then pick up the rest of the series.

    Great review. :)
